Geneva Baseball Hosts Grove City in 2016 Home Opener; Drops Two 6-1, 11-4

Geneva

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva baseball hosted Grove City in its 2016 season home opener on Saturday, March 19. Grove City’s bats proved to be too much as the Wolverines outscored Geneva 6-1 and 11-4 in the doubleheader. The games were also Geneva’s first Presidents’ Athletic Conference contests of the season as Geneva fell to 4-7 on the season.

JC Ackerman’s (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) perfect game at the plate wasn’t enough to battle Grove City in game one. Ackerman led the Golden Tornadoes offense with two hits, a walk and scoring the Golden Tornadoes’ only run.

On the mound, Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) took the loss. His record now stands at 1-1 after giving up five hits, walking three, and striking out three.

In game two, Geneva mustered six hits but dropped an 11-4 decision. Geneva’s runs came from a single run in the second, two in the fifth, and a run in the seventh after in a two hit inning. Aaron Witman’s (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian Academy) RBI double was Geneva’s big hit of the game.

Jeff Parker (Green Brook, NJ/Timothy Christian) was charged with the loss, now 1-2. Parker gave up only one earned run but the Golden Tornadoes allowed seven runs during his time on the mound. He finished his five innings of work striking out one, walking one, and allowing ten hits.

Wednesday, March 23 at 4 p.m. Geneva hosts Bethany in a single nine inning game.
