Geneva Sweeps Marywood in Season Opener

Fort Pierce, FL – In their season opener, the Geneva men’s baseball team swept Marywood University in a double header on Tuesday afternoon. In the first game of the day, Geneva won 6-3 with a late offensive surge. It continued the momentum in the second, winning 7-1.

In the first game, Marywood opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. There would be five lead changes before the end of game, but in the eighth inning, Geneva scored on an RBI single by Joe Galante (Emsworth, PA/Avonworth), bringing home Vinny Howells (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside).

Starting pitcher Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) kept contact to a minimum, striking out eight Marywood batters. Ackerman allowed no earned runs, five hits, and three walks over eight innings.

Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) went 3 for 3 at the plate in the game. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the fifth and eighth.

The second game was just as successful offensively for the Golden Tornadoes as they opened scoring with two runs in the first inning on JC Ackerman’s (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) RBI single. Unlike the first game, there would be know lead changes this game. Andy Santana (San Pedro de Marcoris, DR/Desert Christian) would also contribute offensively with two RBI singles.  

On the mound, Jeff Parker (Green Brook, NJ/Timothy Christian) had a solid day as he struck out nine hitters en route to the win. Parker allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks over six innings.

Geneva will play again in Florida tomorrow, March 9 against Wilkes University at 5 p.m.
