Softball Snaps Split Streak

Keslar

Naples, FL – After two days of splits, the Geneva softball team snapped that streak by defeating Salem State University (MA) 13-1 (5 innings) and Northland (WI) 8-0 (5 innings).  The pair of victories raises Geneva’s overall record 4-2.

“We were really good today,” said head coach Van Zanic. “It was a very complete day. It starts with Emily and solid defense. We know we can score runs; it is fun when it starts to snow ball like that.”

Emily Keslar (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Connellsville) earned two strikeouts in her five innings of work against Salem State giving up only five hits.

At the plate, Geneva rallied for six runs in the second inning, seven in the fourth.

Six Golden Tornadoes each had a pair of hits while Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) and Taylor Yarletts (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) led the team in RBIs with three each.

In game two against Northland, Hicks continued her hot streak with four hits. Yarletts went two for three at bat including a triple to right field and crossed home plate in the same play on an infield error.

On the mound, Keslar surrendered only one hit and struck out three in five innings. Keslar’s successful work day raises her pitching record to 4-2.

Saturday, March 12 at Lee County Sports Complex, the Golden Tornadoes take on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 9 a.m. followed by another game at 11 a.m. against Wisconsin Superior.
