Beaver Falls, PA- The Geneva baseball team faced Summit University in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 22. The Golden Tornadoes were able to sweep their opponents with the scores of 4-2 and 14-2, respectively, holding their opponents to eight total hits. The wins increase their overall record to 10-21 with their President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) record of 3-16 intact.

In game one, the top of the first saw Summit University take an early on run lead. Yet, Geneva would score in the bottom first on a RBI triple by Joey Luciana (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph), and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Witman (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian Academy). Luciana was hot from the plate as he went 2-3 in the game, helping Geneva towards their 4-2 victory.

Jeff Parker (Green Brook, NJ/Timothy Christian) held Summit to just three hits, allowing one earned run, six walks, and striking out five during his six innings of work.

Game two would tell a similar tale, as Geneva would win 14-2.

Geneva’s first inning would be enough to keep the GTs in the lead all game, highlighted by Luciana’s three-run home run. The bottom of the third provided eight runs for the Golden Tornadoes’ offense as they scored on a wild pitch, a two-run single by Richie Rowe (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk), an RBI single by Andy Santana (San Pedro de Marcoris, DR/Desert Christian), an RBI single by Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional), and a two-run single by JC Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian).

Summit University couldn't get anything going as long as Caleb Metzler (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was pitching. Metzler would have a monster game as he only allowed one hit in his six innings of work. In those six innings he allowed no earned runs, walked none, and struck out three.

Geneva easily handled Summit University pitching as six hitters combined for 11 hits, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Saturday, April 22 is Geneva College baseball senior night. The team with their families and friends will come together to celebrate the careers of their seniors. They will be at home at 1 and 3 p.m. as they once again take on Summit University.
