Aaron Witman Big Day Not Enough at Waynesburg

Waynesburg, PA – The Geneva College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Waynesburg University on Friday, losing 6-5 and 2-1, respectively. The losses move the team to a 7-15 overall record, 2-10 in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC).

Senior Aaron Witman (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian Academy) had a strong offensive game in the opener as he went 2-4, including a home run, but Geneva was unable muster a comeback as they still fell to Waynesburg 6-5 in seven innings.

On the mound, Geneva’s Branden Schlick (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley), kept Waynesburg under control, allowing just one hit, striking out four and walking one, allowing no earned runs in two innings. Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) took the loss. He lasted 3 2/3 innings walking one and allowing four runs.

In the second game, Geneva scored in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Josh Luciana (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph), but lost the lead when Waynesburg scored two in the sixth.

Drew Nichols (New Wilmington, PA/Wilmington) was charged with the loss. He pitched seven innings, walked one, and struck out six.

Geneva will host Waynesburg for a single nine-inning game on Monday, April 11 at 2 p.m.
