Strong Performances Lead to Second Place Finish for Men’s Track and Field

Bethany, WV – The men’s Track and Field Team traveled to Bethany College to compete in the Bethany Invitational on April 2. Due to the multiple strong performances, Geneva men’s team was able to compete to a strong team second place finish behind Bethany College.

Junior sprinter Cameron Unrath (Wexford, PA / Pine Richland) started things off for the Golden Tornadoes with his second place finish in 11.26 seconds. His sprinting performance was followed by teammate senior Jacob Mellinger (Leetonia, OH / Crestview) as he finishes third in the 400 meter dash at 50.40 seconds. 

Freshman Levi Ebersole (Mifflinburg, PA / Mifflinburg) opened the distance events with his third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.00. Sophomore Clay Smith (Williamsport, MD / Williamsport) competed in the 5,000 meter run finishing in second place in 16:15.93. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, freshmen Jacob Ames (Erie, PA / PA Cyber) ran to second in a time of 10:30.20. Capping the distance events was freshmen Josh Duffie (Canton, OH / Glenoak) with his strong first place finish in the 10,000 meter run after he finished in 35:11.08 followed closely by sophomore Cody Schreiber (Hadley, PA / Commodore Perry) who finished second in 37:23.52.

Hurdler sophomore Alex Parker (Meadville, PA / Meadville) won the 110 meter hurdles dash in 15.63 followed in third by teammate junior Michael Savino (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) in 16.15.

High Jump proved to be a good event for sophomore Jacob Feeney (Hermitage, PA / Kennedy Catholic) as he jumped to a 1.77m (5’8”), which was good enough for a second place finish.  Freshmen Jesse Garcia (Mechanicsville, MD / Chopticon High) jumped to a third place, 6.34m (20’75”) finish in the long jump as well as a second place, 12.70m (41’9”) triple jump finish for Geneva.

The Geneva men’s Track and Field team will compete again Friday, April 8 at Mount Union.
