Bethany, WV – On Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 the Geneva men’s track and field team competed in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship meet at Bethany College. The Golden Tornadoes finished fourth overall in the meet and had strong finishes in individual events.

Senior Jacob Mellinger (Leetonia, OH / Crestview) put a cap on his track career, finishing first in the 400 meters with a PAC and Geneva record time of 48.64 seconds. Mellinger also competed in the 200 meters, finishing third with a time of 21.89 seconds.

“Jacob Mellinger had a great final PAC meet,” said head coach Phil Thompson. “Jacob has made a huge impact on this program and helped make this program what it is today. I am very lucky to have had a chance to coach this young man.” 

In addition, Alex Parker (Meadville, PA / Meadville) finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds and the Golden Tornadoes had four third place finishes - junior Cam Unrath (Wexford, PA / Pine Richland) in the 100 meters at 10.96 seconds, sophomore Clay Smith (Williamsport, MD / Williamsport) in the Steeplechase at 10:10, the 1600 relay team Unrath, Levi Ebersole (Mifflinburg, PA / Mifflinburg), Dalton Paxson (Rochester, PA / Rochester) and Mellinger, at 3:22.07, and the 400 relay of Henri Kennedy (Titusville, Pa / Titusville), Unrath, Mellinger, and Parker with a time of 42.70 seconds.

Paxson also finished second in the 400 meter hurldes with a time of 56.47. 

“This was a great end to a great season,” said Thompson. “I am so proud of everyone on this team. They have worked so hard through the season and it has really paid off.”

The Golden Tornadoes have a few selected athletes who qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) end of season meet. That meet will take place on May 18 in Westfield, Massachusetts.
