Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva was served a pair of bitter losses opening up conference play against long-time rival Westminster Saturday afternoon. The 8-0 (six-innings) and 5-4 losses lower Geneva’s record to 10-6, 0-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

The Titans opened with a run off two hits in the first inning of the first game. Holding Geneva to three hits in the opening game, Westminster built its lead to 3-0 after a two run fourth inning and ended the game an inning early after a five run sixth inning.

“We didn’t capitalize on many of our offensive opportunities,” said head coach Van Zanic. “We put ourselves in good positions to break out offensively and couldn’t come up with a timely hit.”

Geneva’s bats came alive in game two but an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the seventh sent the Golden Tornadoes home a loser.

Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield) was perfect at the plate with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and an RBI. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the third and sixth innings.

“I was proud of the way we battled back in game two,” said Zanic. “But the weather for the second half of game two was miserable and we were just trying to get through it.”

Geneva continues conference play on Wednesday, March 6 hosting the Thomas More Saints in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
