Dr. Ward Speaks at Duquesne Communication Conference

Joel Ward

Geneva College is proud to recognize Professor of Communication Dr. Joel Ward for his participation at the 14th National Communication Ethics and International Association for Dialogue Analysis Conference on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

Dr. Joel Ward

Dr. Ward will present with a panel on the topic of “A Dialectic on ‘Dialogue’: Navigating the Rhetoric of Dialogic Communication Ethics.” His paper is titled “Managing Meeting Times: Voice and Presence as the Ethic of Subjectivity.”

Believing that learning is a never-ending process, he says that having a desire to learn is often fueled by experiential activities. He teaches his students to think critically about the world, and has a reputation of nurturing and encouraging thoughtful, academic, and spiritual obedience to Christ.  Dr. Ward joined the Geneva Communication Department in the fall of 2014, and teaches classes in Argumentation and Debate, Culture and Communication, and Communication Media Design.

Dr. Ward stated, “I attend conferences because it makes me a better teacher, period. If I didn’t I’d be selling students worn out ideas that haven’t ever been tested by a jury of my peers which is where they will receive a real and honest judgement for their equivalency to what is both true and right.”

Geneva College Communication Department Chair and Communication Disorders Professor Susie Layton encourages faculty in their pursuit of academic achievements outside of the classroom. She stated, “Over the last couple of years, Geneva's Communication Department has been increasingly active in regional and national communication conferences through faculty presentations. These contributions to various organizations show our professors' commitment to communication scholarship, and their example has inspired our students to participate as well, through their presentation of papers, posters, and panel discussions.”
