Geneva Men’s Soccer 2016-17 Season Preview

Geneva Men's Soccer

The Geneva Men’s Soccer program is chomping at the bit to begin the 2016-17 campaign. While losing a few high-impact seniors to graduation, the Golden Tornadoes return a very dynamic core group and have added a promising freshman class as they pursue the conference crown.

When asked about the current state of the program Head Coach Gary Dunda remarked, “Our program is always working to build on past success to meet future goals. We have sustained a high quality level of play and believe it is now time to rise and meet our personal expectations. Each member of our program is determined to become a better player and by doing so our team will be strengthened as a whole.”

The Golden Tornadoes’ work ethic and passion to improve is anchored in the leadership of the junior and senior classes. “Our upperclassmen have done a great job of returning to campus and setting a high standard for themselves and a talented first year group. Through tireless hard work, Abel Carleton has turned himself into one of the most dynamic and talented players in the PAC”, Dunda stated. When asked more about his key returning players he continued, “Helping Abel create consistent goal-scoring opportunities is Jonathan Shoaf whose vision and playmaking ability as a senior will help direct our team in the attacking third.” Referencing another team captain who is coming off back-to-back all-conference seasons, Coach Dunda added, “Gibson McCracken continues to be the engine that drives the Geneva Men’s Soccer program forward.”

As they remember and mourn the loss of freshman Nate Ferraco in January of 2016, the team has adopted the mantra “rise” for the season. While never forgetting Nate, the team looks rather to rise from this tragedy and play in his honor. The Golden Tornadoes begin their competitive schedule on September 2nd and 3rd as they host Juniata College and University of Pitt-Greensburg respectively in the first annual Nate Ferraco Classic.
