Latrobe, PA – The Golden Tornadoes roamed the Saint Vincent Bearcats field Saturday afternoon reaching 365 offensive yards in the season’s first Presidents’ Athletics Conference ball game. Despite being able to move the ball up the field, Geneva’s four fumbles surrendered the 28-21 decision to the Bearcats. The road loss lowers Geneva’s overall record to 1-2, 0-1 in the league.

“It was a great football game,” said head coach Geno DeMarco.

Geneva was able to take the lead after a two-touchdown second quarter for a halftime score of 14-7.

“We had opportunities but we can’t give the ball up four times and expect to win a conference game,” said DeMarco.

Turnovers proved extremely costly in the second half as the Golden Tornadoes managed to squeeze out just one rushing touchdown between five turnovers.

“I thought we ran the ball very well,” he continued, “We survived both quarterbacks being injured. We are getting there.”

Geneva offense was led by three sophomores; Trewon Marshall (Leetsdale, PA/Quaker Valley) with 134 yards rushing, 38 yards receiving, one touchdown, Javid Ellis (Port St Lucie, FL/Saint Lucie West Centennial) with 87 yards rushing, 87 yards passing, one touchdown and Nick Monteleone (East Palestine, OH/East Palestine/Youngstown State with 26 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving, one touchdown.

Sophomore Skyler Cron (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) led Geneva’s defense with eight tackles (1.5 TFL) and one pass breakup. Senior Jimmy Quinlan (Brookfield, OH/Brookfield) tallied seven tackles (0.5 TFL) and junior Jared Hogue (Freedom, PA/Freedom) earned five tackles (1.0 TFL) with two pass breakups.

The Golden Tornadoes return to Reeves Field on Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m. against the Thiel Tomcats during Geneva’s 2016 Homecoming.
