Beaver Falls, PA – On Saturday night, October 22, the Geneva men’s soccer team defeated the visiting rivals Thomas More 1-0 in double overtime. The win moves their overall record to 12-3-1, being 6-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) and extends the program’s winning streak to ten, sixth consecutive shut-out.

“It was another really tough match against a really good Thomas More team,” said head coach Gary Dunda. “I thought they came out and played extremely well and had us on our heels but our guys showed a lot of grit, merit, and character and as the game progressed we got better.”

After a scoreless 105 minutes of play, senior midfielder Jonathan Shoaf (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Christian) scored his second goal of the season with an assisted goal poked past the Saints’ goalkeeper.

The game was fairly even throughout play as Geneva outshot their opponents 16-13 but had once less corner-kick opportunities with 6-7.  Sophomore goalkeeper, Luke Nolan (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny), made six key saves to keep the Golden Tornadoes in the game.

“Jonathan Shoaf getting the game winning on senior night was well deserved as he was the best player on the field tonight,” remarked coach Dunda. “I am extremely happy for all three seniors as well as the whole Geneva soccer family.”

Entering their final week of play, the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Thiel College on Wednesday, October 26 for their 8:30 p.m. start time looking to remain undefeated in conference play.
