Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College men’s soccer team hosted Grove City College for their President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) home opener. The Golden Tornadoes defeated their conference rivals 2-1 giving them the overall record of 6-3-1, now being 1-0 in the PAC.

Junior captain Josh Brenize (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) opened scoring on the home pitch with a goal in the ninth minute of the game after the ball deflected back out to him from the corner kick.

Grove City responded with their single goal for the night in the 33rd minute.

“We are starting to become a determined group,” said head coach Gary Dunda. “When we have a group that is reaching for a common goal than we become a very powerful group. They are really starting to come together and are ready for next week.”

It was a fast and aggressive game at home with 37 total fouls for both teams (Geneva 18, Grove City 19). Geneva was outshot by their opponent 14-13, however they had corner kick advantage 9-4.

In the second half, sophomore David McKinley (Bellville, OH/Clear Fork HS) scored in the 80th minute off a header from a corner kick Brenize to solidify the victory.

“Grove City is extremely classy,” continued Dunda. “It is always good to compete against brothers in Christ.”

Geneva will move forward to host Westminster College at home on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:30.
