Beaver Falls, PA – On Saturday, October 15, the Geneva women’s softball team served in the community by spending the day working for Tiger Pause, a Christ-centered, community-based organization in Beaver Falls. Our Town, an event specifically for Geneva College students to engage in the Beaver Falls community that Geneva College is proud to be a part of, provided this opportunity for service.

Before beginning their work, the team met with Matt Nance, the executive director of Tiger Pause, who spoke about the organization’s mission for the youth in the community and talked through the team’s day of work. Some of the girls cleaned both the inside and the outside of the bus used for many areas of Tiger Pause’s ministry. “We washed the windows inside and out, swept, wiped down seats, and wiped down the outside of the bus,” said Clara Sevy, a senior on the team. “We had so much fun cleaning the bus. We thought, ‘These kids aren’t going to know what hit them!’

While some of the team cleaned the bus, others cleaned inside the building where Tiger Pause meets. They scrubbed the floors, cleaned bathrooms, and organized games and school supplies. Along with cleaning the building used for service to the children of the community, the team spent time inside the Tiger Pause Furniture Bank, organizing the inventory and cleaning, and the Beez Café. The team finished out their service day with pizza at Soma Church.

“Getting together and accomplishing goals to help others is just another example of what sets Geneva College apart from other schools,” said head coach Van Zanic. “I was extremely proud of our ladies because it was totally motivated on their own. As a coach, you always like to see your players being self-motivated on the field, but to have them come together for a good cause off the field and do it on their own is really special.”
