Home Sweep at Metheny Fieldhouse; Geneva Defeats Defending PAC Champions in Three

Beaver Falls, PA - Saturday, October 1 was full of excitement for the Golden Tornadoes as they hosted a conference tri-match with Thomas More College and Waynesburg College. Geneva defeated Thomas More, the 2015 President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) Champions, in three sets; 25-8, 25-17, 25-17. Following the Waynesburg and Thomas More game, Geneva defeated Waynesburg in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-19). The two victories raise Geneva’s overall record to 14-5, 9-1 in the PAC.

In game one against Thomas More, the Golden Tornadoes offense was led by juniors Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview), Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) and sophomore Sydney McNulty (State College, PA/State College Area). McNulty hit an impressive .625 percent against the Saints posting 11 kills while only committing one error. Naples was strong at the net with two solo blocks and two block assists in addition to her 10 kills (.562). Hughes tallied 11 kills earning a .450 hitting percentage.

Senior Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) racked up 13 digs supported by senior Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) with ten digs.

Dickson and senior Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) both contributed on the service line with long service runs of six and seven points in the first set to help keep the Saints to eight points.

The Waynesburg game was another dominant showing for the Geneva offense as they won again in three straight sets.

With the double victory in straight sets, the Geneva women’s volleyball team has not lost a set in the last six games to help remain undefeated in their last 13 games.

Geneva will compete again on Wednesday, October 5 as they head to Grove City College for a 7 p.m. match.
