Beaver Falls, PA – The Golden Tornadoes hosted annual Coaches vs Cancer Tournament to open play in Metheny Fieldhouse. Geneva represented its support of all those battling cancer along with supporting one of its own, women’s basketball head coach Lori Wynn as she battles ovarian cancer. Geneva’s warm up gear consisted of a pink athletic logo and #WynnTheBattle featured on the back.

Jimmy Leichliter’s (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) big night with 28 points led Geneva to an 85-80 win over John Jay in day one of the tournament. Now 1-1 overall, Geneva is set to face the University of Pittsburgh Bradford campus at 3 p.m. in the tournament’s championship game.

“We battled,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. “Our focus is to battle and play together and we did that. We took some time off in the second half but we regrouped and played defense. Jimmy hit some big shots to help us locked in and play. We grew up and we are growing every day.”

Leichliter sunk six three-pointers in his 28-point performance and chipped in eight rebounds. Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) posted 13 points, six rebounds in the home victory.

Junior transfer Tyler Crenshaw (Moon Twp, PA/Moon/Mt. Aloysius) tallied his first double double as a Golden Tornado with 12 points, 13 rebounds.

“I am happy for us,” continued Santarsiero. “It is the first time in seven years that we are playing in the championship of our own tournament, which is something to be proud of.”

Geneva will face Pitt Bradford, who defeated Otterbein 63-59 in the first game of the tournament, to conclude the Geneva College Coaches vs Cancer Tipoff Tournament at 3 p.m.
