Beaver Falls, PA- On Thursday, November 17, the Geneva College Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted an American Red Cross blood drive. Many student-athletes and Athletic Department employees came to volunteer.

The Golden Tornado SAAC is comprised of student-athletes from each athletic program at Geneva who meet monthly to initiate student-athlete involvement on campus and in the community. Follow all the club’s initiatives by following @Geneva_SAAC on twitter on visit www.geneva.edu/atheltics for any releases on upcoming events.

On Thursday, a combination of 50 scheduled donors and several walk-ins contributed to the day of the drive. Over the course of the day, a total of 39 units of blood were collected—25 whole bloods and the terrific number of eight power reds. Power Red donations have twice the amount of red blood cells which are perfect donations for cancer patients or those in critical care situations. Because of the donations of Geneva College students, faculty, and staff, along with member of the Beaver County community, 89 patients now have the potential to receive benefit.

The American Red Cross is returning on January 26, 2017, and is still in need of a Geneva club sponsor. Contact Barb Kimbell at barb.kimbell@redcross.org if you are interested in sponsoring this event.
