Geneva Indoor Men’s Track & Field’s Alex Parker Showcases PR Performance at YSU

Youngstown, OH-  The Geneva College men’s track and field team traveled to Youngstown State University on Friday, January 20 to compete in the YSU College Invitational. The non-scoring meet was held at the Watson and Tressel Training site. Geneva College was the only NCAA Division III track and field team competing in a field of Division I & II schools.

“The men had a great meet today,” said head coach Phil Thompson. “This meet was full of great competition and we performed really well. Each event had over 30 athletes and they were all DI and DII schools.”

Junior distance runner Clay Smith competed in the mile run event finishing with a time of 4:33.28.

Sophomore hurdler Alex Parker was the highest finisher for the Golden Tornadoes with his 12th place finish in the 60 meter high hurdles. He finished the event with a time of 8.66 seconds.

Sophomore distance runner Josh Duffie competed in the 5K race running to a 13 overall place finishing in a time of 15:46.69.

“Clay, Alex, and Josh led the team today with great performances,” commented Thompson. “Clay ran a strong mile and finished with a great time. Josh had a top 15 finish in the 5K with a 15:45. Alex finished 12th overall in the hurdles with a PR and some great competition. I'm very happy with today's results.”

The Geneva track and field teams will travel to Spire University next Friday, January 27 for the SPIRE Institute Midwest Indoor Track and Field Open. Competition is set to start at 12:30 p.m.
