Greenville, PA – The Thiel Tomcats held Geneva far below its average point made per game of 63.5 to 57 points. The Tomcats defense allowed Thiel’s offense to hand Geneva a 78-57 final loss on Wednesday, February 1. The road loss moves the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 4-16, 1-12 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Callie Ford’s (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) good three-pointer tied the game 7-7 with 4:47 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first 10 minutes Thiel held a five-point lead, 14-9.

Geneva cut Thiel’s lead to two points in the opening minutes of the second quarter with a Lydia Songer (Wexford PA/Pine Richland) bucket from beyond the arc (14-12).  Thiel answered with a 10-0 run that was eventually broken up by another Ford three-pointer. Geneva’s cold second quarter handed the Tomcats a high 17-point at 00:36. Ford’s pair of free throws cut the Tomcats lead to 15 for a halftime score of 34-19.

Thiel topped Geneva by 19 points with 7:40 left in the third. Geneva attempted to trim down the game. Jodie Carlson (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw)dropped a three-pointer bringing the score to 55-33.Rachel Larson (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) added to the run with a deep jumper. Geneva entered the fourth quarter down by 15, 50-35. 

Despite Geneva’s efforts, Thiel continued to add to their lead finishing on top in the 78-57 final. The Tomcat win brought to an end Thiel’s 10-game losing streak, while handing the Golden Tornadoes their double figure skid.

Callie Ford finished the contest with a double double scoring 20 points, four points above her average while grabbing 11 rebounds. Two more Golden Tornadoes tallied double figure points. Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) posted 16 points, Jodie Carlson recorded 12.
