(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - Dr. Frances Howard-Snyder speaks on “The Moral Risk of Trust: Learning from Fiction” March 15-16, 2017 during Geneva College′s Dr. Byron I. Bitar Memorial Lecture in Philosophy, an annual event since 2004.
Dr. Howard-Snyder’s first lecture, "Learning from Fiction," will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 in John White Chapel of Old Main. Her second lecture, “Faith, Trust, and Moral Luck,” will take place at the same time and location on the following day, Thursday, March 16.
Dr. Frances Howard-Snyder earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from Syracuse University and has taught at Wayne State, Purdue, and, for most of her career, at Western Washington University. Her areas of expertise include metaphysics, epistemology, logic, and aesthetics. She has written numerous papers in ethics and philosophy of religion, including "Divine Freedom," International Journal for the Philosophy of Religion (forthcoming), "Damned if you do; Damned if you don't," Philosophia (2008), and "Truth in Fiction: the Whole Story," (in William Alston, ed., Realism and Anti-Realism (Cornell, 2002). The Dr. Byron I. Bitar Memorial Lecture in Philosophy is endowed by the William C. Kriner Family in memory of Geneva College′s beloved professor of a quarter-century, in order to continue his legacy and vision for philosophy.
