Geneva Late Rally Led by Forrest Beighley Extended Game to Extra Innings; Game Suspended Due to Darkness

team

Beaver Falls, Pa. - Geneva Baseball hosted the Grove City College Wolverines in the team’s first Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season. The game was tied at 8-8 heading into the eleventh inning when it was suspended because of darkness on the field. The game will continue at Grove City on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m. before heading into the regularly scheduled double header. The team remains 6-8, 0-0 in the PAC.

Geneva allowed Grove City an early one-run lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Jacob Poremski (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) earned Geneva their first run of the evening on a Grove City error. Junior Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) made it over the home plate soon after from a solid hit by Jericho Hilling (Willamsburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) to the shortstop.

The next seven innings brought a tough fight for the Golden Tornadoes earning one more run by Poremski in inning three while Grove City racked up another five runs. After a four-inning scoring drought, junior Forrest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) slammed the ball out of the park getting the momentum back for the Golden Tornadoes and they headed into in ninth inning with a score of 4-6.

Anthony DeMeo’s (Broadview Heights, OH/Brecksville) solid performance from the pitcher’s mound held Grove City to their two point lead as Geneva took over offense at the bottom of the ninth. Beighley’s momentum continued off of his homer, hitting as solid double with Pagaduan and Joey Luciana (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph) on base, bringing both home and earning the tie to send the game into extra innings.

Geneva had work to do in the tenth inning as they allowed Grove City to earn two more runs in the top of the tenth. The team stepped up to the task at hand. With bases loaded, Pagaduan singled to center field bringing home Dan Staub (Oil City, PA/Oil City) to bring the score to 7-8 as Luciana stepped up to the plate. Luciana hit a strong sacrifice fly ball to center field, allowing enough time to Dillon Taggart (Livingston Manor, NY/Livingston Manor Central) to tag up on third base before making the dash home earning Geneva their eighth point of the night and tying up the game.

The night finished there as the umpires suspend the finish of the game due to darkness.

Geneva heads to Grove City on Saturday, March 25 to finish the game at 1 p.m. before playing their regularly scheduled double header.
