Beaver Falls, Pa. – Geneva Softball regrouped after dropping a 5-0 decision to Pitt Greensburg in game one of the Golden Tornadoes season opener for a 5-1 win over the Bobcats. The split moves Geneva’s overall record to 8-6.

“Other than Haley Sainato and Hannah Logan we really struggled offensively all day,” said head coach Van Zanic. “We gave away some chances in the first game and we weren’t able to add to our lead in the second game.

“Our pitchers both did a nice job in game two to help our three runs hold up.”

Haley Sainato (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) went 5-5 at bat on the day and place a perfect sacrifice fly RBI to bring home Ashley Grow (Beaver, OH/Waverly). In addition, Sainato went 3-3 in stolen bases. Hannah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) finished the day 3-6 at bat.

In game one, Pitt Greensburg’s tallied three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth. Geneva recorded eight hits but couldn’t bring in the runs needed. Casey Farkosovsky (Beaver, PA/Beaver) was forced to take the loss after four innings of work, allowing four hits, walking none and striking out two.

In game two Geneva rallied three runs in the second which proved to be enough for the win. Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD/Chapelgate Christian) started the inning off with a single. April Lude (Canfield, OH/Western Reserve) reached on an error allowing Sevy to occupy third. Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) drew a walk, loading the bases. Grow’s single RBI brought home Sevy. Bases still loaded, Ericka Hess (Erie, PA/Iroquois) singled to left field for her RBI followed by Sainato’s sacrifice fly to bring home Innocenzi for Geneva’s third run.

Farkosovsky throw another five innings in the second game allowing only two hits, no walks and she struck out one.

The Golden Tornadoes will be back in action on Thursday, March 23 at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. hosting Franciscan.
