Geneva College Prepares for 2017 Commencement Ceremonies

Graduation

Geneva College is preparing for 2017 Commencement ceremonies for graduating students in the traditional undergraduate, adult degree and master’s degree programs. This year, 413 students are expected to graduate. Commencement events will take place on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6.

Baccalaureate will begin the weekend’s activities on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m. This ceremony will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1103 8th Ave, Beaver Falls, PA 15010. Rev. Andrew Schep, pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Syracuse, NY will provide the message.

Traditional undergraduate commencement will be on Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m. at Metheny Fieldhouse.

Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson, internationally known expert on Reformed Christian Theology, will deliver the commencement address.

Dr. Ferguson is an ordained minister in The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He has served as Charles Krahe Professor of Systematic Theology in Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and also in Redeemer Seminary, Dallas. In addition, he has been minister of three congregations—on the Island of Unst (the most northerly inhabited island in the United Kingdom), in the center of Glasgow (the largest city in Scotland), and in the historic First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S.C. He currently serves as a Teaching Fellow with Ligonier Ministries, as Chairman of the Board of the Banner of Truth Trust Publishers and as the evening preacher in St. Peter’s Free Church, Dundee, Scotland.

During undergraduate commencement, Geneva will present its highest alumni honor, the “Life G,” to Ms. Carolyn Mollenkopf. The “Life G” is presented each year to a graduate for service above self, who embodies the principles for which Geneva College stands, and whose efforts on behalf of the college, the community, and the nation have been exemplary. Mollenkopf graduated from Geneva in 1962 with a degree in elementary education. She was librarian of the Baltimore County Public Schools for 32 years and a concierge at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore for 24 years. She continues to be a strong supporter of Geneva College and an alumni representative.

Both traditional undergraduate commencement and the adult and graduate commencement will be streamed live at www.geneva.edu/commencement.

An indoor reception for the graduates and their families will immediately follow in three designated buildings on campus.

Commencement for adult and graduate programs will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 3 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. Rev. Thomas J. Stein, Jr., associate pastor of Chapel Presbyterian Church in Beaver, PA, and Christian Ministry Instructor in Geneva's Adult Degree program, is the featured speaker.

A native of Cincinnati, OH and a Geneva College alumnus,  Rev. Stein served as a pastor at Parkwood RPC in Bloomington, MN from 1994 to 1999 and as Senior Pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church in Richmond, IN from 1999-2001. He previously served as Geneva's Director of Alumni Relations. Rev. Stein earned his Master of Divinity at Covenant Theological Seminary and has a M.A. in Journalism from Indiana University.

A reception on the lawn of Old Main will follow the graduate and adult commencement ceremony.
