PAC First Seed Shows Colors in Series Opener

Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes fell to first seed Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) foes Washington & Jefferson College on Friday, April 21 in a single, 9 inning game with a 23-3 final score. The loss brings the Golden Tornadoes’ record to 8-23, 2-15 in the PAC.

W&J’s lead began early when senior Derek Helbing hit the first home run of the game as the second person in the batter’s box. W&J held strong for the whole game, bringing at least one man around the bases each inning and managing to earn four home runs in the game.

Geneva was able held at bay for the majority of the game, only able to earn six hits in their 34 at bats.

The Golden Tornadoes brought their three runs in during the seventh inning. The rally started with two men walked onto base. Junior Tyler Pagaduan’s (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) strong double out to center field brought sophomore Mark Overmier (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) home and earned Geneva a place on the score board. Next up to bat Vinny Howells (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) singled to the pitcher and brought Dan Staub (Oil City, PA/Oil City) home. Pagaduan quickly followed, stealing home on an error by the Presidents.

The one inning rally was not enough to recover and the Golden Tornadoes were forced to take the 23-3 loss.

Geneva returns to the pitch on Saturday, April 22 at W&J to face the team again in a double header beginning at 11am.
