Saints Slay Geneva Baseball 8-7, 11-3 in PAC Doubleheader

Josh Grant

Crestview Hills, KY – The Thomas More Saints slayed Geneva baseball 8-7, 11-3 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 10. The loss lowers Geneva’s overall record to 7-18, 1-10 in the PAC.

Geneva’s three-run sixth inning fell just short as the Golden Tornadoes fell 8-7. Geneva chipped away at the Saint’s 7-1 lead after their six-run second inning; which brought the score to 7-2. The Golden Tornadoes tallied a run in the fourth and fifth closing the gap to 8-4 entering the sixth inning.

Richie Rowe opened the sixth inning rally with a single to center field. Dillon Taggart slugged a single RBI to right field to bring home Rowe. A series of hit by pitches and walks added two more runs for the GTs.

Caleb Metzler was forced to take the loss on the mound after five innings of work. Metzler allowed 12 hits, eight runs, walked one and struck out one.

In game two, Thomas More recorded three straight big scoring innings creating a hole too big for the Golden Tornadoes to climb out of. The Saints posted four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third and fourth innings.

Geneva was able to cross home plate in the fourth, fifth and sixth but their six hit performance couldn’t overcome the Saint’s 12 hit game.

Josh Grant ended up on the wrong side of the decision, taking the loss after two innings or work. Grant allowed three hits, four runs, walked four and struck out three batters.

Geneva continues play at Waynesburg on Thursday, April 13 in a conference single nine-inning game starting at 4:30 p.m.
