Captain Hooke Leads Geneva in 6-3 Win at Thiel

Greenville, Pa. - The Geneva College men’s tennis team tabbed a 6-3 win over Thiel College on Monday, April 24. The conference win lifts Geneva’s record to 4-12 overall, 3-5 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC). 

“It is great to end our regular season conference play on a high note heading into the PAC Championship this weekend,” said head coach Mandee Craft.

Team captain Jesse Hooke and partner Evan Shaw fought for a 9-7 win in first doubles. Tim Martin, recently named PAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and partner Caleb Hoal showcased an 8-2 win in third doubles. 

“The win at first doubles really turned the tide for us and we were able to follow it up in singles play,” added Craft.

Enter singles play holding a 2-1 advantage, Hooke struck again earning a 6-1, 6-0 lead in second singles. Martin also went 2-2 on the day posting a 6-0, 6-1 win in fourth singles. 

In fifth singles, Alex Grissinger tabbed a 6-2, 6-0 two-set win. 

Ethan Stahl recorded his fifth straight victory in sixth singles play. After a 4-0 record last week, Stahl kicked things off this week with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win. 

Before heading to Erie for the PAC Championships, Geneva will host Ohio Christian in a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 26. The match will begin starting 5:30 p.m. held at the Blackhawk High School Courts.
