Geneva “Pie Your Coach Day” Raises $256 for Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association

Beaver Falls, Pa.  – On Thursday, April 6 Geneva College celebrated the national NCAA Division III week by coming together to “pie” Geneva coaches to raise donations for the Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association (BCCHA). The event, which featured Geneva coaches getting a pie in the face, was hosted by the Geneva Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) who was joining the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) conference-wide fundraiser named Change Wars.

The SAAC groups at PAC and the North Coast Atlantic Conference (NCAC) member institutions conducted a weeklong "Change War" from April 3 through April 9. Campus SAAC groups collected change during Division III Week, and the conference which raised the most combined funds will be declared the PAC/NCAC "Change War" winner. Additionally, each conference will celebrate the member school which raises the most funds within its respective league.

The second annual Change Wars was a friendly competition of the two leagues to donate the most money during NCAA Division III Week. The combined funds raised by the PAC will go to BCCHA, the same organization that received support from the #wynnthebattle campaign in honor of Geneva women’s basketball head coach Lori Wynn. In January, the PAC’s 10 member schools hosted #wynnthebattle events to send Coach Wynn a clear message: she is not facing her battle alone. Wynn, in her seventh season at Geneva, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last summer and forced to step away from her program and her players throughout much of the season. The PAC raised over $2,500 in support of the BCCHA during its #wynnthebattle events.

All of the combined funds raised by the NCAC will go directly to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute in Meadville, Pa., in support of former Allegheny College head volleyball coach Bridget Sheehan and her fight against fallopian cancer.

Geneva College’s SAAC group is proud to announce they raised $256.17 towards the efforts of Change Wars thanks to the willing coaches who signed up to be pied in the face. The PAC is scheduled to release a final report of fundraising results after the Easter holiday.
