Geneva Swept Bethany Bison in Extra Innings

Ashley Grow

Bethany, WV - Geneva Softball playoff eligibility stayed alive after a thrilling sweep of the Bethany Bison. On Saturday, April 22 the Golden Tornadoes earned the conference sweep; 3-1, 5-4 (10 innings). Geneva will enter its last regular season week of play with an overall record of 21-13, 10-6 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Geneva’s three run first inning was enough to tab the game one victory; 3-1. Haley Sainato, Clara Sevy and Casey Farkasovsky each got on base as the 1-3 spot hitters. Clean up hitters Ashley Grow (2 RBI) and April Lude (1 RBI) did their jobs for the runs batted in. In the circle, Farkasovsky completed the seven inning contest allowing only six hits, no earned runs, walked two and struck out four.

In game two, Bethany struck early with a run in the first. It wasn’t until the fourth inning where Geneva responded with three runs on home runs from Farkasovsky and Lude (3-1). The Bison tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth matched by a Golden Tornadoes run in the fifth (4-1).

A Bison four hit, two run bottom of the seventh rally leveled the scoreboard at 4-4 taking game two to extra innings. After a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, Grow’s single to third base posted the winning RBI bringing Sainato home.

Farkasovsky (17-7) earned another win in the circle after 3.1 innings pitched. She allowed only one hit, walked none and struck out three batters.

Geneva will close out its home game schedule on Monday, April 24 in a non-conference doubleheader hosting LaRoche College starting at 3:30 p.m.
