Softball Drops Two in Kentucky 7-2, 8-0

Laura Innocenzi

Crestview Hills, KY – The Geneva College Softball program is still looking for its first win among competition in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) after a disappointing visit to Kentucky on Wednesday, April 5. The Thomas More Saints (15-7, 4-0 PAC) handed Geneva (11-11, 0-4) a pair of losses; 7-2 and 8-0 in five innings.

Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) went 2-3 at bat and tallied a RBI in game one against the Saints. Geneva was held to four hits while Thomas More posted 12. Bobbie Ann Theiss (Lisbon, OH/Beaver Local) took the loss in the circle after six innings of work.

The Saints cut game two short outhitting Geneva 12-1 in the five inning contest. Geneva’s lone hit came off the bat of Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA/Mohawk) to open the second inning.

Geneva will look to Saturday’s (April 8) double header against Washington & Jefferson for its first mark in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes and Presidents will have an addition to their typical uniforms on Saturday. Both teams will be competing in gold shoe laces in support of Go4TheGoal’s mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer.

Go4theGoal was founded in 2006 following Richard Stefancci diagnosis of Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Stefancci lost his battle just before his 15th birthday.

In 2010, Stefancci’s young cousin was also diagnosed with a rare cancer, Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. With the support of the Go4theGoal, she won her battle with cancer and is going on her sixth-year cancer free.

Go4theGoal created the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer event in 2011. Teams from every sport across the nation purchase and wear gold laces from Go4theGoal, with the proceeds helping children with cancer and their families.

Geneva and W&J have joined the movement, and coaches and players will wear laces during the April 8 double header.

For those who wish to join in supporting Go4theGoal, a donation bucket will be available at the game. One-hundred percent of donations will support the Go4theGoal foundation.
