Beaver Falls, PA – The Golden Tornadoes hosted the visiting Westminster College Titans on Saturday, April 1 for Geneva season conference opener. The Titans swept the Golden Tornadoes with scores of 8-0 and 7-2 in games one and two. The pair of losses move Geneva to an overall record of 11-9, 0-2 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Despite two early errors, the Golden Tornadoes were able to limit the Titans to one run in the top of the first. The Titans came up to bat strong in the top of the second as they were able to turn a bases loaded situation into a 4-0 lead. With nothing to slow down the offensive movement, Westminster was able to win the game in five innings 8-0.

The freshman pitcher Casey Farkasovsky (Beaver, PA/Beaver) took the loss in the game one.

Game two finished in similar fashion. In the bottom of the third, an illegal pitch sent Haley Sainato (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) home for Geneva’s first run of the day to make it a 2-1 game. Farkasovsky’s double center field bomb sent Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD/Chapelgate Christian) home for the tie score before the end of the inning.

A two-shot homer by Westminster in the top of the fourth created distance again between the two teams for the 4-2 score. In the next inning, the Titans were able to draw the lead out even more with two runs creating in the 6-2 lead. Sainato was able to connect for a double, her second hit of the game, to try and spark the offense in the bottom of the fifth but the team was not able to capitalize on her movement before the end of the inning.

Westminster was able to put away one more in the top of the sixth for the end game score of 7-2.

Farkasovsky will take the loss in the second game to bring her pitching record to 9-7.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Kentucky to continue conference play against Thomas More on Wednesday, April 5 for games at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
