The Geneva College community will join together on Friday, September 1 to mark the beginning of the fall 2017 semester with the traditional Academic Convocation ceremony. Faculty, clad in formal academic regalia, will welcome first-year students in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:10 a.m. The Convocation ceremony will be livestreamed at Geneva.edu/live.

During the ceremony, Dr. Elaine Hockenberger, the 2016 recipient of the Excellence in Full-Time Teaching Award, will present the convocation address. Dr. Hockenberger has taught Communication Disorders in Geneva’s Communication Department for over 30 years. After graduating from Bloomsburg University with a B.S. in Communication and a M.S. in Speech Pathology, she earned her Ph.D. in Communication Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh.

Four faculty awards will be announced by Dr. Melinda Stephens, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and presented by Dr. Calvin L. Troup, President of Geneva College. The annual awards recipients for Service, Excellence in Part-Time Teaching, Excellence in Full-Time Teaching and Excellence in Scholarship are traditionally revealed at each Convocation ceremony.

Geneva College students and faculty nominate the award recipients, who receive the honor along with a monetary gift and plaque.
