(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The millions of residents of Texas and Florida ravaged by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in recent weeks will continue to need support throughout the recovery efforts in the coming weeks, months and years.

Geneva College will assist those recovery efforts this weekend during sports contests. On Saturday, September 16, Geneva student-athletes involved in SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) will take cash donations at the soccer match against Fredonia State and at the football game against Saint Vincent.

All donations go to Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF), a Pittsburgh-based, gift-in-kind charity that has provided over $4 billion in aid and supplies in 149 countries since 1958 and is routinely ranked as one of the largest and most efficient United States charities. BBF will send 100% of all donations to the relief efforts in Texas and Florida.

Additionally, Geneva College will donate $1,000 of its ticket revenue from Saturday’s football game to the relief efforts.

“We are just trying to do a small part in supporting those folks who have had their worlds turned upside down,” explains Van Zanic, Geneva College Director of Athletics. “It is heartbreaking to see the images of devastation across those regions. Hopefully we can provide a little hope and support to those in need.”

Geneva’s men’s soccer match starts at 4 p.m. at Merriman Athletic Complex followed by the football game kickoff at 7 p.m. at Reeves Field.
