BEAVER FALLS, Pa., September 27, 2017 – Geneva College joined with The Pittsburgh Promise and 18 other colleges and universities today to establish the Preferred College Partners Initiative. As a Preferred Promise Partner, Geneva commits to expanded financial aid and support services to Promise scholars, graduates of Pittsburgh Public schools and recipients of a Promise scholarship who meet Geneva admissions requirements.

For the incoming class of 2018, Geneva will add to existing scholarships by providing Promise recipients with a room and board grant in the amount of $10,000 a year for up to four consecutive years. At Geneva, the students will also have access to one-on-one academic coaching, peer tutoring, Study Skills Assessment, a writing center and academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Important details are included at Geneva.edu/promise.

Dr. Melinda Stephens, Geneva Chief Academic Officer who participated in today’s event with The Pittsburgh Promise, says, “Geneva has a long history as a pioneer in making college accessible to students regardless of financial or social barriers. We also have a long history of supporting The Pittsburgh Promise. Our new status as a Preferred Promise Partner with The Pittsburgh Promise advances our Christian higher education ministry – to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor.”

The Pittsburgh Promise, a scholarship program for Pittsburgh Public School students, advocates for improving the quality of education and increasing the preparedness and diversity of the region’s workforce. Pittsburgh has the largest Promise program in the United States. For more information about The Pittsburgh Promise, visit www.pittsburghpromise.org.
