Football and Soccer Fans Empty Pockets for Brother’s Brother Donations

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College supported the massive recovery efforts of residents in Texas and Florida impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma by taking a collection at this weekend’s soccer match against Fredonia State and football game against Saint Vincent.

During the two sports contests, student-athletes involved in SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) asked for cash donations from fans at the games. A total of $1,679.80 was raised for the cause.

The donations are going to Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF), a Pittsburgh-based, gift-in-kind charity that has provided over $4 billion in aid and supplies in 149 countries since 1958 and is routinely ranked as one of the largest and most efficient United States charities. BBF will send 100% of all donations to the relief efforts in Texas and Florida.

Brother’s Brother President Luke Hingson joined the Golden Tornado football game at Reeves Field where the collection was underway.

“We are just trying to do a small part in supporting those folks who have had their worlds turned upside down,” explains Van Zanic, Geneva College Director of Athletics. “It is heartbreaking to see the images of devastation across those regions. Hopefully we can provide a little hope and support to those in need.”
