(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Genevans, Geneva College’s concert choir, will be performing in Memorial Park Church’s Reformation Celebration on Saturday, October 28 at 7 p.m. The celebration is presented in conjunction with the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The choir will be joined by the Chancel Choir of Memorial Park Church for a few selections. The Genevans will sing their traditional processional piece, Psalm 96 “O Sing a New Song to the Lord,” and finish the evening performing Christiansen’s “Beautiful Savior” and Manz’s “E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come” in their traditional surround sound style.

The Reformation Celebration will highlight each of the five Solas that crystallized the Reformers’ basic theological principles: Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, and Soli Deo Gloria. These iconic themes will be traced through the evening as The Genevans sing several Martin Luther works. The congregation will be invited to join the choirs in Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress is Our God,” which has traditionally been known as the “Reformation hymn.”

The theme Soli Deo Gloria” will highlight David Kenneth Smith’s arrangement of “To God be the Glory” and Byron Curtis’s newly-composed “Sola Deo Gloria” anthem for women’s voices. Selections by Bach and Mendelssohn will also be performed and share the Reformation theme.

The Reformation Celebration service is free of charge and open to the public; a free-will offering will be received. Dr. Jerry O’Neill, president of Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will be the speaker for the evening. Memorial Park Church is located at 8800 Peebles Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.
