Geneva College Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. in Night of the Arts

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.)  – The Geneva College Center for Student Engagement (CSE) will host the Seventh Annual Night of the Arts in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 15 in Skye Lounge, Student Center. This free cultural event is open to everyone and celebrates Dr. King’s life and legacy through the arts.

The event begins at 7 p.m. with a dessert reception for attendees. The formal portion of the program begins at 7:30 p.m. and features both Geneva and community members performing music, spoken word, oral presentations and painting.

Geneva College students Tamika Burman-McNeill (spoken word), Greg Beechaum, Jr. (reflection), Rachel Tyson (painting) and Prof. Doug Bradbury (reflection) will perform.

The Terry Levels Jazz Band will provide music, as will Kelley Johnson and Ebonee Grover of Allegheny Center Alliance Church of Pittsburgh and the Beaver Falls High School Choir, under the direction of Yvonne Martinez.

The Beaver County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Essay Contest Winners, including Jayden Norman, sixth grader from Rochester Middle School, will perform their essays.

Kristie Martel, Interim Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion, says, “The CSE seeks to provide opportunities to celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and for learning that leads to reconciliation. Through the arts, honoring the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dedication to racial equity is a poignant way for Geneva to fulfill our mission and recognize the beauty and creativity of God’s diverse world.”
