(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Belle Henry, former biochemistry major at Geneva, presented her research at the 32nd American Chemical Society Student Members Annual Symposium at Duquesne University on April 14, 2018. Her poster, "The Putative Role of Lycopene Cyclase for Zeaxanthin Synthesis in Pedobacter heparinus," was ranked as one of the top five undergraduate presentions.

For a year and a half, Henry worked on the research project with Dr. Rodney Austin, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Geneva College.  This project explored a certain bacterium’s dye-producing pathway and culminated in the award-winning poster presentation at the Symposium this spring.

Henry recently graduated from Geneva and plans to further her skills as a researcher. “I really like problem solving, and with researching, that is what you get to do,” states Henry. “You are contributing to a larger body of work that is actually going to have an impact on people; this is important for me to feel fulfilled.”
