Academic Convocation Ceremony Opens the Fall Semester

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Geneva College community will join together by focusing on the Lord on Friday, August 31 to mark the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester with the traditional Academic Convocation Ceremony. Faculty members clad in formal academic regalia will welcome first-year students in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:10 a.m. Convocation will be livestreamed at Geneva.edu/live.

Dr. Frederick “Jay” Neikirk, Professor of Political Science, will present the convocation address, Of Many Books & Wearisome Studies: Our Proper Response. Jamie Swank, Dean of Student Development, will charge the students and Chaplain Rutledge Etheridge will pray for them.

Dr. Melinda Stephens, newly named Provost of Geneva College, will present awards in four categories to faculty. After receiving the nominations of students and faculty colleagues, the annual award recipients for Excellence in Teaching, Excellence in Scholarship, Excellence in Part-Time Teaching and Outstanding Service are revealed at each Convocation ceremony. Recipients receive a monetary gift and a plaque.

Dr. Calvin L. Troup, President of Geneva College, will announce faculty promotion and tenure decisions and close the ceremony in prayer.
