Geneva College Hosts the Play Tolkien & Lewis: Wardrobes & Rings

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) — Geneva College will host the play Tolkien & Lewis: Wardrobes & Rings on the Beaver Falls campus for two shows in John White Chapel, Old Main, on Friday, January 25, and Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 7 p.m.

Playwright and actor David Payne, who last year at Geneva brought C.S. Lewis to life in My Life’s Journey: An Evening with C.S. Lewis, reprises his role and is joined by Gregory Welsch as J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien & Lewis: Wardrobes & Rings explores the friendship of the two lions of twentieth century British fantasy writing. Though their writing, The Chronicles of Narnia (Lewis) and The Lord of the Rings (Tolkien), reached millions of readers, young and old alike, with mystifying adventures to entertain and deep truths to move people's hearts, they were also Oxford University faculty members, participants in a literary group known as the Inklings, and friends who had their share of disagreements and estrangement. In the play, audiences join "Jack" and "Tollers," as they knew each other, at Oxford's historic Eagle and Child pub for one last visit, tempered by thawing humor, confession and reconciliation
