(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – For the fourth year, Geneva College will host the 2019 Beaver County Special Olympics Track and Field Championships on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from Beaver County schools will compete at Reeve’s Field and the Merriman Athletic Complex on the Geneva campus. The competition kicks off with a pep rally and opening ceremonies on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse.

Geneva students lead the initiative of hosting the event in partnership with Beaver County Special Olympics. Volunteers from Geneva and the surrounding community live out their faith through service and love in an event demonstrating that all people are immensely valuable as image bearers of God.

The Special Olympics seeks to build a world where people with intellectual disabilities lead healthy, vibrant lives grounded in ongoing sports and physical activities, sound nutrition and a deeply held commitment to improve, compete, achieve and demonstrate their personal bests to themselves and their communities.

Athletic Director Van Zanic states, “We love having people from our community on campus with us, and it gives our student-athletes, staff and faculty the opportunity to see how serious these kids are about their sport. I’m proud of our student-athletes who volunteer their time to make it a really great event for everybody.”

This will be a day of competitive fun and community. For those interested in volunteering, donating or registering, contact the Geneva Special Olympics Committee at specialolympics@geneva.edu.
