(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College announces a new mobile app, Geneva Mobile, which provides a development platform for students in its software engineering courses and enables easy access to campus information. The Geneva Mobile App is available for free download from the Apple iTunes App Store and the Google Play App Store.
Provided by technology server Unifyed, Geneva Mobile was made possible by a grant from Campus Consortium, the largest global education association of schools, colleges and universities. The app currently consists of applets including Campus News, Emergency Numbers and Social Media Networking. As student development on the platform continues, the app will incorporate ready-access to information like dining menus, parking information and course catalogs.
As students design and implement new features for better user experience, Geneva will provide computer science majors with high impact learning opportunities, says Director of Computer Science, Gordon Richards, PhD.
Richards says, “This kind of experiential learning is priceless. The opportunity to work on a live app is not something undergraduate students often get to do. We are excited to see what we can do to help improve the student experience through this app.”
Richards’ Software Engineering students are already developing plans and requirements for modifications to the app. The class recruited focus groups of their peers from various majors to assess what new functions the campus community desired in the app. This approach enables participants to have a voice in the future of the application and the direction of development.
The computer science developers are currently finalizing requirements based on student input and will complete the first iteration this month with plans to continue modifying the app in the years ahead.
