(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College will name the George and Beverly Tannehill Department of Business, Accounting and Sport Management in a ceremony in Northwood Hall on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 3 p.m. The Tannehills donated $6 million in total to the college consisting of $1.5 million to be used for faculty and student development, technology and other investments to enhance business programs and $4.5 million as a scholarship endowment.

This year, the Tannehill Department of Business, Accounting and Sport Management celebrates 20 years of accreditation by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) after recently being reaffirmed for 10 more years.

Geneva College President, Calvin L. Troup, PhD, says, “George and Beverly were true friends of Geneva. They lived out the college’s motto, Pro Christo Et Patria, in service to God and neighbor with commitment, grace and love. We are deeply grateful for the Tannehills and their estate gift that will support our business students in their pursuit of Christ-centered education, and we praise God for His faithfulness in continuing to bless choices of commitment and obedience by His followers.”

The late George Tannehill, 1946 Geneva graduate in business, decorated World War II veteran and long-time executive at the Koppers Company, along with his late wife Beverly, were generous supporters of the Geneva College business program. Upon Mr. Tannehill’s death in 2018, he and his wife ensured a legacy through one of the largest planned estate gifts ever donated to Geneva. In recognition of the Tannehills’ dedication to the college’s core values, to the study of business as an academic subject and to students of the future, Geneva College will rename the business department in their memory.

In 1994, Mr. Tannehill received Geneva’s Life “G” Award, the highest alumni recognition for service above self and noteworthy efforts on behalf of Geneva, community and nation. The award capped a lifetime of service and awards, including nine bronze stars and battle awards during his time in the Army Air Forces with the 775th Bombardment Squadron, 463rd Heavy Bomb Group during World War II. Later, he taught evening school at Geneva, was a professor of business at the Citadel and travelled throughout South America, the Middle East and Asia as Comptroller and in other management and finance roles at the Koppers Company. He worked at Koppers for 38 years. He was a lifelong active member of the First United Methodist Church in Rochester, PA, and served in several lay leader positions.
