Geneva College Releases Golden Tornadoes Spring 2020 Athletic Schedule

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College will host several dozen home games in eight different men’s and women’s varsity sports, according the just-released Golden Tornadoes Spring 2020 Athletics Schedule. Geneva student-athletes will compete in NCAA Division III in baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. All teams play in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC), except for the men’s volleyball team, which competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).

The men’s and women’s basketball teams are in the second half of their season, with about one month remaining. Below are listed their remaining home games, each date a doubleheader with the women playing first, at the birthplace of college basketball in Geneva College’s Metheny Fieldhouse.

  • Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m./4 p.m., against Grove City on Pack the Gym Day
  • Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m./3 p.m., against Chatham on Senior Day

The men’s volleyball season is underway, and the Golden Tornadoes are picked as the preseason favorites in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after their strong first season of varsity competition. Their remaining home matches in Metheny Fieldhouse include:

  • Saturday, February 1 at 3 p.m./7 p.m., against Randolph-Macon and Elmira
  • Wednesday, February 12 at 4 p.m./8 p.m., against Mount Union and Saint Vincent
  • Friday, February 21 at 7 p.m., against Wittenberg
  • Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m., against Penn State Altoona
  • Saturday, February 29 at 10 a.m./4 p.m., against Penn State Behrend and Thiel
  • Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m., against Hiram

The men’s tennis season will begin in full in February, with home matches held primarily at the outdoor courts of Blackhawk High School, or if need be, held indoors at the Brady’s Run Indoor Courts. The Golden Tornadoes have a strong group of upperclassmen returning. Home matches include:

  • Thursday, March 19 at 6 p.m., against Westminster
  • Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m., against Penn State Altoona
  • Monday, March 30 at 6 p.m., against Washington & Jefferson
  • Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m., against Thiel

The men’s and women’s track and field teams are in competition now. The men are coming off five straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships, two indoor and three outdoor, while the women return a strong group of underclassmen. The Golden Tornadoes have two home outdoor meets at the Merriman Sports Complex on the college campus this season:

  • Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m., the Golden Tornado Classic
  • Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m., the Geneva College Invite

The women’s softball team opens its season in March with a trip to Florida over Spring Break. The Golden Tornadoes return a strong group of underclassmen who led Geneva back to the conference playoffs last season for the first time in four years. Below is listed their home schedule, all doubleheaders at the Geneva Softball Field on campus, with the times and dates subject to change due to possible weather or rain-related issues:

  • Thursday, March 19 at 3 p.m./5 p.m., against Point Park
  • Wednesday, April 1 at 3:30p.m./5:30 p.m., against Westminster
  • Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m./3 p.m., against Bethany
  • Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m./5:30 p.m., against Waynesburg
  • Monday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m./5:30 p.m., against Baldwin Wallace
  • Wednesday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m./5:30 p.m., against Thiel

Lastly, the men’s baseball team looks to bounce back after a tough season last year, with several newcomers expected to make an immediate impact.  The Golden Tornadoes also open their season with a trip to Florida over Spring Break in March.  Home games, played at the  33rd Street Field, are listed in the home schedule below with the times and dates subject to change due to possible weather or rain-related issues:
