(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College and the Geneva Visiting Artist & Lecture Series (GVALS) welcome Scott R. Swain, PhD, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 for two public addresses. Dr. Swain will fill the role of chapel speaker at 10:10 a.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse, and he will deliver the 2020 J.G. Vos Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. in Skye Lounge, Student Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Scott R. Swain is President and James Woodrow Hassell Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida. He earned a BA from University of North Florida, both a MDiv and ThM from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his doctoral degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

His main research interests include the doctrine of God, theological interpretation of Scripture, Intellectual and moral virtues and modern Protestant theology. He has published a number of books and essays on these topics. Along with Dr. Michael Allen, he serves as general editor of two series: Zondervan Academic’s New Studies in Dogmatics and T & T Clark’s International Theological Commentary.  Dr. Swain is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He and his wife, Leigh, have four children.

The evening lecture is in memory of J.G. Vos, a much-loved Bible professor at Geneva. Along with Geerhardus Vos, his father, J.G.Vos was an important proponent of “Biblical Theology,” an approach to reading the Bible that takes into account God’s unfolding plan of redemption from Genesis to Revelation as a unified story, held together by God’s covenants with His people.
