(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Geneva College Pittsburgh Campus at the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry (CUBM) is hosting a thought-provoking panel discussion on “Music & the State of Music in the Black Church: Hymns, Songs & Spiritual Songs.” The public is invited to the panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones, Founder and Director of The Heritage Gospel Chorale of Pittsburgh. It will be at the Geneva Pittsburgh Campus at CUBM on the Reformed Theological Seminary location at 7418 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
Dr. Jones is recognized as one of the nation's foremost figures in choral conducting and pedagogy, and an expert in the intersection between theology and musical expression. A Southern transplant to Pennsylvania, Dr. Jones has cultivated a broad-based, multifaceted career as a choral conductor, educator, operatic and oratorio bass, liturgical dancer, orator and pastor, teaching and performing across the United States and Europe. Among his many roles, he is a board member and adjunct faculty member for Geneva College Pittsburgh Campus/CUBM.
Panelists, all experts in music as part of culture and the church, include Nikki Porter, Pastor Keith Moncrief, Dr. James T. Johnson, Dr. Alton Merrell, Bishop Kenneth Anderson and Dwayne Fulton.
