(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College joins the nation in celebrating the life and legacy of The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 18, 2021, in a series of events hosted by the Center for Student Engagement (CSE).

Students, faculty and staff will meet at the Student Center to participate in “Moments from the Civil Rights Movement: An Interactive Experience” with a simulated March on Washington at 2 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Later in Skye Lounge at 5:30 p.m., the community can show and increase their knowledge at an MLK Day Trivia contest. The day’s events conclude with a showing of the documentary film “Good Trouble” in John White Chapel.

Geneva CSE Director, Randon Willard, says, “Geneva usually celebrates MLK Day with music, poetry and art; but for the pandemic, this year would have been the 10th annual Night of the Arts. However, the events this time give the Geneva community a unique opportunity to remember, learn about and grow the commitment to non-violent, self-sacrifice exemplified by the life of Dr. King. His legacy of equal rights for all people who were created in the image of God is a unifying force on our campus.”

The hour-long “Moments from the Civil Rights Movement” experience takes participants on a journey around campus to meet key members from the Civil Rights Movement, to experience a Sit-In, and to actively engage in Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.  Geneva College’s a capella group New Song will provide music during the experience.
