(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College announces that Bible Professor C. Scott Shidemantle, PhD, has accepted a Visiting Professor appointment at Jerusalem University College (JUC) in Israel for the spring 2022 semester.

Dr. Shidemantle will teach two courses remotely from Israel to students on Geneva’s main campus in Beaver Falls while living and teaching JUC students in Jerusalem. JUC is the leading evangelical Christian school in the Israeli capital city, offering master’s degrees, certificates, semester abroad and other programs to students who wish for immersive study of the Bible in the Holy Land.

Shidemantle says, “This is a tremendous opportunity for me personally, but also a wonderful way for Geneva College and JUC to forge an even closer relationship.  I have plans to spend significant time studying, particularly, the archaeological remains of both the Pool of Bethesda and the Pool of Siloam.  These two sites in Jerusalem play a significant role in the Gospel of John.”

The Geneva College Bible Department offers a robust program in Biblical Studies, including the study of both Greek and Hebrew. Since 2007, the Geneva College Bible Department has also team-taught, every other fall semester, a course titled “Archaeology and Geography of Israel,” which culminates in a two-week study tour of Israel over Christmas Break led by Dr. Shidemantle and colleagues Dr. Jonathan Watt and Dr. Byron Curtis. The course will be taught in fall of 2021 and the Israel trip is scheduled for December 27, 2021 to January 6 or 9, 2022. Details are available at www.geneva.edu/israel.
