Geneva College Welcomes Kenya Johns as Full-time School Counseling Program Director

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College announces Kenya Johns will join Geneva College’s Master of Arts in Counseling program as School Counseling Program Director.

Johns earned her B.S. in Psychology in 2014 from Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, PA), and graduated from Geneva College with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2016. She is currently a PhD candidate at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, PA) and has completed all but her dissertation in her program, focused on clinical supervision and education.

Johns has served as a teaching assistant for Duquesne University and Geneva College, and recently as adjunct faculty for Slippery Rock University. She has clinical experience as a Family Behavior Therapy Supervisor and Foster Family Support Consultant for Pressley Ridge, in Beaver Falls, PA. She has served as a content developer for the OASIS App, providing consultation on child and adolescent development content. She has served as a program supervisor and member of the Board of Directors for TRAILS Ministries in Beaver Falls, and as Program Coordinator for Harmony House Bridge to Recovery in Rochester, PA.

She has achieved certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Sexual Assault Advocate, a CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer. She also holds Adam Walsh, Family Behavior Therapy, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certifications.

Johns says, “I feel so honored and blessed that God has provided me with an opportunity to work in my hometown. As a lifelong Beaver Falls resident, Geneva has always played a role in my life, and I am happy to see this come full circle.”

She is published in Innovations in Global Mental Health, and has done editorial work for NARACES Graduate Gazette, the Chi Sigma Iota Proposal Committee, the Pennsylvania Counseling Association Proposal, and the National Latinx Psychologists Association.

Johns maintains professional affiliations with the North Atlantic Region Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the Pennsylvania Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association, the Beaver County Minority Coalition, the Beaver County Community and Law Enforcement Coalition, Chi Sigma Iota international counseling honor society, and Psi Chi international psychology honor society.
