(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College remembers 9/11 following its twentieth anniversary with events in the Geneva Visiting Artist and Lecture Series (GVALS). A panel of three people with personal stories about the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021 in Skye Lounge, Geneva College Student Center. The panel consists of Tom Dykhouse, David R. Shedd ‘81, and Anne Van Hine, all of whom experienced the impact of the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
Tom Dykhouse was working as an executive for a company located in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Fortunately, he was traveling overseas that day, but he lost many close colleagues. David R. Shedd, Geneva alumnus, was an advisor to President Bush and has the perspective from the White House during the crisis. Anne Van Hine’s 9/11 story is also one of loss. Her husband, a New York City Firefighter, was killed in the line of duty on that fateful day.
After the panel of personal stories, there will be two other 9/11 related events. Brad Jacobs, a constitutional expert, will lead a lecture called, “The Constitution and 9/11” at 10:10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 at Skye Lounge. Both speaking engagements are free and do not require registration. The final event is a bus trip to the Flight 93 Memorial on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Additionally, the Geneva College Student Veterans Club (SVA) installed a 9/11 Flag Memorial (pictured above) on the Geneva campus lawn to represent the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Geneva community members sponsored flags planted.
