BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College Theater Program will present three live, on-stage productions for the 2021-2022 season.

The Theater Program will begin the fall 2021 season with a musical presentation of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, an adaptation by Joe Tracz and Rob Rokicki of the best-selling novel by Rick Riordan. In this show, Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. As Percy struggles to navigate the new world he has been dropped into, he is faced with accusations of theft, ultimatums from godly enemies, and a prophecy which warns him of betrayal by a friend. To return peace to Mount Olympus (and save his own skin), Percy will have to catch the true thief and unravel a treacherous plot of truly godly proportions.  The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is directed by Mindy Williams, and will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on November 4-6 and 11-13.

In spring 2022, the Theater Program will stage a production of Fools by Neil Simon, a laugh-out-loud romp about Leon Tolchinsky, a teacher who lands a (seemingly) excellent position in a tiny Russian hamlet, only to find that everyone in the village is under a curse of Chronic Stupidity. Unfortunately, Leon has fallen madly in love with one of the villagers and now has to break the curse. If only someone had thought to tell him that he only has twenty-four hours to accomplish his goal before he, too, becomes a complete fool. Directed by David Kuhns, Fools will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on February 17-19 and 24-26. In April, student directors step forward to present the annual Student Directed One Acts.

Each show encourages us to consider our fundamental need for joy and how, mixed with the courage to face difficult and unexpected challenges, humor can provide a way to engage, and even overcome, cynicism and despair. We invite you to join us for a season packed with fun-filled adventures that highlight the power of laughter, love and courage to sustain us whatever circumstances (magical or otherwise) in which we find ourselves.
